Mailing List FAQ

question What is a discussion mailing list?

A A discussion mailing list is a group of people who are all connected by email. The mailing list is used to enable the group to talk to each other, in the way they would talk to a group of people in a room. Usually there are several ‘conversations’ taking place at the same time, about different topics.

If you want to talk to the group, to join in a conversation, you just need to reply to an email you have received from the list. Your email will then go to everyone on the list, allowing everyone the chance to read it, and maybe to reply.

If you have never been a member of a mailing list before, it is acceptable for you to sit in the background and not contribute until you are comfortable with how it all works.

question Why would I want to join your mailing list?

A HE-Special-UK is a mailing list for families who Home Educate Children with Special Educational Needs. It has a UK focus, although not all the members are from the UK.

If you are in a position where you are looking into Home Education for your child, then it is a good place to go to meet people who already Home Educate and can answer some of your questions.

If you already Home Educate, the mailing list is a good place to meet like-minded people and discuss issues that come up in reference to Home Education. If you are isolated and don't live near any other Home Educators, being a part of a mailing list can give you valuable contact with other members of the Home Education community.

question How many members are there in HE-Special-UK

A At the time of writing this there are around 200 members.

question How many emails will I receive each day?

A At times the list can get busy, at other times (often school holiday times) the list can go very quiet. On average there are probably about 20 emails through the list each day. If the volume of emails becomes too much for you, you can always set yourself as “NoMail” for a little while. It is also possible to receive a digest version of the list - choose this option on the subscribers page. (Follow this link then click on "Subscribers corner")

question How do I leave the mailing list?
