Never enough time · Sunday April 1, 2007 by Lily

I forgot to mention I was reading Roland Meighan’s “Natural Learning and the Natural Curriculum,” on the train yesterday, having seen him speak at HESFES 2005. Sadly R didn’t really like HESFES, I’d love to go again, but it’s not to be.

I’m also reading John Taylor Gatto’s “Dumbing Us Down.”

I hate getting to school holiday time. I do a mental update of what we have and haven’t done and become concerned about the haven’ts. I have huge hopes for working faster, accomplishing more, but the fact is ds does things very slowly, we have endless resources we could use if only we could carry on HE into the next decade…...

Rupert mostly wants to take school holidays as his friends are all at school and so it’s the only time he gets to see enough of them.

We’ve had a quiet day today. R wanted a day to himself doing “tidying up,” which I thought meant his PC, bedroom and watching videos. Actually, he swept up a bit outside, always a favourite activity, then text messages kept coming in for him and he was enticed out to meet up with some friends. Ds enjoys gardening, we’ve a large unruly garden and from time to time he gets out and does a bit of weeding, clears the strawberries, mows the lawns and so on, and helps us with digging, path laying etc. Both my boys love gardening. We have a 24 year old horse chestnut tree our eldest planted from a conker.

R made himself a pasta meal and got an earlyish night as he wants to go out early to meet his friend again tomorrow. Dh has to take the car in for some work to be done on it and then ds has French in the evening, they only have Easter Monday off. Maths class has stopped for Easter but there are plenty of past papers to be done.
