Easter Sunday · Sunday April 8, 2007 by Lily

We had a lovely Easter Sunday. Trivia: when I was 5, Easter Sunday was my birthday. Dd’s 5th birthday was Charles and Diana’s wedding day.

Ds1 and his wife and our granddaughters came for an egg hunt in our garden, then dd came with her partner and baby son. In the absence of dh who was with his mother in Hants doing her hospital visit/house cleaning and gardening, Rupert was an absolute star, stepping straight into his shoes, tidying up and making the garden safe for toddlers (trippy hosepipe and so on,) sweepng up paths, and washing and setting the tables so we could eat a lovely meal outdoors in the sunshine. It was a beautiful day, marred only by the fact that dh wasn’t with all the family. R spent some of the time texting his girl friend, M. It is lovely to see how considerate of her he is.

So I come to the end of my blog. I’ve enjoyed writing it enormously, and it has actually been a defining moment. Over the past month I’ve been able to look back over what we’ve done for almost 7 years, and also look forward to the future.

I don’t actually think home education will ever stop for us, life-long learning is a certainty. I hope we have replaced the punitive schooling ds experienced with something along the lines of putting his life and learning enjoyably in his own hands, under his control. Certainly I am proud of the thoughtful and caring young man he is now.

OK, so I’m going to mention Scouting and Gang Shows one last time! Every Gang Show has it’s own ending, it’s own tradition. All of them finish with “The Crest of The Wave,” with actions, none the same. Ours has a lovely penultimate song we’ve not heard anywhere else; it always makes us sad at the last preformance and I think I can use it in the context of HE for our Home Educating years.

“These are the times we shall dream about
And we’ll call them “The Good Old Days!”
When the years have rolled away we shall dream of the times we had,
And the songs we used to sing,
So, while we’re together, let us laugh at the weather, and,
Whatever the gods may bring.

When all our youth is but memory,
And the years bring the parting of the ways,
Then remember, Fellas,
These are the times we shall dream about
And we’ll call them “The Good Old Days!”

I’ve also heard HE days referred to as “The Golden Days.”

Thank you for reading.
