It Is Only Fiction · Friday April 27, 2007 by Abbie

We started with our usual day of reading in bed, and then reading out of bed. After lunch I had my power nap, and Ram read more of his Bionicle book. I think he has one more to go before I have to buy the next four books.

The boys came to do the grass, and normally Ram likes to go out and have a chat with them, but today he chose to stay in and watch something on TV. I think he had had enough of people this week.

I spent the time making up a new calendar chart for the bathroom. Ram gets very confused still as to what day it is and what happens on each day. So I make month at a view sheets of paper to put on the wall so that we can discuss it when we get ready for bed and also when we get up in the morning. This time I did it on a continuous roll of paper so we have three months worth running from ceiling to floor!

I had to get this done as it was on of the action points from our last family meeting and the next one is next weekend!

We really enjoyed listening to The News Quiz on Radio 4 during supper this evening, We had a good laugh and it was great to tie in some of the articles I had read to him from the papers this week.

We also watched Have I Got News For You too, and at one point we couldn’t stop laughing! Again, it was great to have the same news items only this time with pictures and a different slant to them.

When we went up to bed Ram came down with a case of verbal diarrhoea. He often gets his at night. He sat on the side of the bathtub with his tooth brush in his hand, the toothpaste dripping off, telling me all about the Bionicle book he was reading, and then went onto what was wrong with the light sabres in the Star Wars films. Apparently the light comes on in the wrong way if they were really lasers, or something like that.

He did pause for a few seconds when I told him to brush his teeth, but the monologue carried on while he went to the toilet and washed his hands!

Eventually I was laying in bed and he was still going on about how wrong George Lucus got it, standing there half undressed and unable to move on and get into bed.

So I calmly pointed out that the film was a work of fiction and that George Lucas can have any type of light sabre he likes. It is just fiction!

He looked a little hurt so I reminded him of the laughs we had from HIGNFY when they were talking about how the scientist knew that he had found Kriptonite by googling it and finding that it matched the fictional kryptonite in the Superman films. I think he got the message and after a good laugh got into bed happy to listen to the Discworld book we are reading.
