Here's hoping that tomorrow is better... · Wednesday October 11, 2006 by june

Today started off with a serious downpour and thunderstorm. Pour Tom had to walk to school in it.

Our next door neighbours have been having a stair carpet fitted – down all three floors. The banging started at 10am and went on until at least 4pm. I have such a headache. I didn’t smell it earlier, but having been out of the house just now, I notice that there is also a strong solvent smell in the hallway – which probably hasn’t been helping. So today has been a bit of a blur…

James finished the Dr Who work. Liz has still a few pages to go, I told her to only do two pages, but she got enthralled in her story and has done 5 or 6 A4 pages! She is also determined to illustrate her story. We are going to have a go (Liz and I) at NaNoWriMo next. James is not remotely interested, but I have another writing activity planned for him anyway.

The clarinet came out of it’s box today, and we’ve all had a go at playing that. It was only a cheap buy off ebay (although it is a Vito, and was new, so I suppose it was a good buy). My friend and her daughter play so they have helped us get started. No one is actually learning it as such yet. Just learning where the notes are – and playing around – and sort-of working through the Abracadabra Clarinet book at the same time.

James did his maths, and accordion, although I gave up by the time it came to do the physics because my head was pounding too much. A friend has loaned us some recording software, and this has taken up most of James’s spare time over the last few days. Next, his dad is going to sit down with him and teach him how the professionals work out a good sound mix.

Liz did maths, singing with bbc3’s Music Workshop, and finished the T-shirt she has been decorating (see photograph).
