Doing our own things · Friday October 13, 2006 by june
Today was pretty much about everyone getting on with our own lives. In fact, this is probably more like my ideal Home Education day.
I had shopping to do, and a hair appointment. So Liz and I had a wander around town, she bought a skirt from the charity shop, and we talked a lot about modifying clothes. This is a project we are working on – we made the T-shirt I’ve already mentioned, and now we are making a skirt out of an old pair of jeans (that have already been turned into shorts) and we will make a macrame belt to match. We have been inspired by some of the clothing we saw at ‘Fat Face’ the other day. We had a look at some brilliant bags – we are planning on making a bag for carrying around her flute and her music books. And, we talked about Christmas presents (only 10 weeks to go).
We have friends and family coming over tomorrow, so I have also been busy tidying round the house.
Meanwhile James started by reading ‘Eagle Strike’, made some music on the PC (eJay, I think), and then moved on to some 3D animation.
In the afternoon, James started playing his accordion, Liz and I listened to some Jazz flute. Then, since James didn’t show any signs of stopping, we took our flutes and joined him in playing through some folk tunes. Before we knew it Tom was back from school.
Yesterday was much more routine, and both Liz and James worked through their usual Maths, English, etc… routine. We are doing some history work on the Plague which involved listening to a Radio 3 schools programme, and talking. James knew so much about it already (and he has never been “taught” about it) so I’m sure we didn’t really need to do anything. The story is good though – and they do like listening to stories. Although Liz got quite upset – which is a problem we tend to have with history – when I put into into context by telling them a local history story about the plague.

Here's hoping that tomorrow is better... The start of another week
